Beam Me Up, Sulu

FEATURE DOCUMENTARY
TRIBECA FILMS PRESENTS
IN ASSOCIATION WITH RODDENBERRY ENTERTAINMENT

In 1985, Star Trek’s George Takei joined a group of dedicated fans to create a student film deep in the California forest—only for the footage to mysteriously vanish.

Nearly 40 years later, Beam Me Up, Sulu unearths this forgotten moment, revealing not just a piece of fan history but a gateway into a broader story of representation, resilience, and the ongoing fight for inclusion in media and society.

Beam Me Up, Sulu is Highway Child’s first feature-length independent documentary and will be released through Tribeca Films, the distribution label from Tribeca Enterprises and Giant Pictures.

It is directed by Timour Gregory and Sasha Schneider, executive produced by Eugene Roddenberry (son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry), and features interviews with George Takei, Alexander Siddig (Game of Thrones), Christina Chong (Strange New Worlds) and Ian Alexander (Star Trek Discovery, The OA).

Available to rent and buy February 17, 2026.
